I'm Back :)

I know it has been almost 3 months since my last blog....boy that went by quick!
Where has the time gone? Oh yeah I know, I was big, pregnant and could barely figure out what to make for supper let alone think of anything somewhat intelligent, (or at least make it sound intelligent), to say ;) Then I had my very sweet baby and I am sure you mothers understand the first month is kind of a blur ;) But now he is 6 weeks old and I'm not so tired and life is kinda normal again in our house:)

So, while at the park with my boys this morning, I saw a mom and I thought, 'I need to blog about her!' And here I am:)

My boys (6yrs & 3yrs) are having a great time. They are running, climbing, jumping, swinging high on the swings and jumping off. And then there is this little girl, (most likely around 4 or 5), wants to climb and her mom says, "oh, that's is too dangerous. That's scary, you can't do that." Meanwhile my 3 year old is 8 feet off the ground looking down at this girl. Then the girl wanted to go on something else, and again she wasn't allowed. The only thing this little girl was allowed to do was go up and down the slide! (Honestly, why tease the girl and bring her to a park and not let her play?) And of course her mom was right behind her the whole time! At the top of the slide, the little girl had a little trip, (and I mean a little trip that most kids wouldn't blink an eye at) and the mom was hugging her, hitting the slide and telling the slide that it was very bad and going on and on! Come on lady! Give her a quick hug and a kiss and let her get back up and playing again!
I got thinking of my own parenting what I do and what I don't want to do. I DO want to encourage my kids to try and reach beyond what they think they can do. And when they fall or fail at something, I want them to shake it off and get right back up and try again. I DON'T want to be constantly over them and holding them back from their greatest potential.
We need to let our children learn, grow and explore. And it all starts with climbing, jumping, playing with mud and digging for worms:)

  1. I like it. We need to challenge our children to reach beyond themselves...to explore, to search, to question. Yeah Wanetta for letting the boys be kids!
